In accordance with Mass. General Laws c.19 § 25, the Center for Police Training in Crisis Intervention operates within the Department of Mental Health and is tasked with statewide scope for a multitude of services.

These include:

  • Establishing and supporting training of community policing and behavioral health for law enforcement

  • Serving as a clearinghouse for best practices in police interactions with behavioral health needs

  • Providing technical assistance to communities by establishing partnerships between law enforcement and human services providers

  • Establishing metrics for success and evaluation

  • Facilitating data maintenance

  • Conducting relevant research
